- After her death on 18 December 1776, Miss Maria Catharina Hoppinck left 10,000 caroliguldens per will for the construction of a new organ in the church of Roden. Albertus Anthonie Hinsz made two specifications. It was decided to let him build a new instrument. On April 7, 1780 the new organ examined by Jacob Wilhelm Lustig, organist in Groningen and Valentijn Hildebrandt. The instrument has two manuals and pulldown pedals. Remarkable is the fact that the positive (Rugwerk) is played from the upper manual.
- In 1849 the organ was in a bad condition. An urgent recovery was needed, but insistence from H.E. Freytag with the church wardens yielded little. Also in 1853 his request was not accepted. It was not until 1856 that he was commissioned to repair the organ. He did not alter anything. Until 1931 the instrument remained completely in its original condition. However, it was now in need of restoration.
- In 1932, the company M. Spiering carried out the renovation work. They replaced the original bellows with one new large bellows The Nasat 3' was replaced by a Viola di Gamba 8' (made of zinc). The Mixtuur and the Vox Humana were removed from the Hoofdwerk. The Sexquialter and the Dulcian were removed from the Rugwerk. A few years later the company Spanjaard proposed to dismantle the organ and build a new one. Their plan was to keep one rank of Hinsz as a memento. Lucky enough, this plan was not implemented.
- In 1950 Mense Ruiter was commissioned to thoroughly restore the organ and to reconstruct the missing pipework. The original specification could be rebuilt. On December 20, 1955, the instrument was put back into service.
- In 1998 Bakker & Timmenga started a new restoration, under consultancy of Stef Tuinstra. On January 27, 2006, this restoration was concluded with a festive inauguration. An open day was organized on 28 January. Stef Tuinstra presented the organ in the afternoon, and in the evening Erwin Wiersinga played the official inaugurational concert.
