In the years 1972-1974 George Croft built a large organ for the Anglican Cathedral in Napier. During construction, much pipe work was taken over from the previous organ of the church, built by T.C. Lewis in 1874 for Knox Presbyterian Church in Dunedin and since 1932 in Napier, and rebuilt and expanded in 1938 and 1966. The new organ had 53 stops on three manuals and pedal. In 2012-2013 the organ was expanded by the South Island Organ Company with a fourth manual and converted to 69 registers.
