  • The organ in the Cathedral of the Holy Cross in Boston, Massachusetts, was built in 1875 by Hook & Hastings as opus 801, with mechanical action and barker machines. It had 70 stops and was the largest pipe organ built by an American firm to date. The organ was dedicated on 23 February 1876. A special concert was organized, with the organists Samuel B. Whitney, B.J. Long, L.G. Chaffin and George E. Whiting.
  • In 1929, the action was electrified and a new free-standing console was installed.
