2007 Orgelmakerij Reil  new organ in old case

  • In the years 1736-1738 Johann Christoph Wiegleb built a new large organ for the Sankt Gumbertuskirche in Ansbach. The beautiful organ case is a work of art by Leopoldo Retty. The organ was one of the largest instruments built in the area at this time. Unfortunately, the interior is almost completely lost. In 1884 the Steinmeyer company rebuilt the organ. Several registers were reused, but modified.
  • In 1961 Steinmeyer built a completely new interior in the old case. The 19 registers of Wiegleb that were still preserved were lost. As early as 1989, plans for a reconstruction of the Wiegleb interior were started.
  • The company Reil was commissioned for this in 2004. Steinmeyer's interior has been demolished. Construction lasted until 2007. Christoph Reinhold Morath was the consultant for the work. On June 17, 2007, the organ was put into use.
