  • The Paterskirche was built as Franziskanenkirche on the Katharinenhof in the years 1631-1640 for the adjacent Franziskanenkloster. In 1747 a new monastery was built. To mark the occasion, the church was given a new interior in Baroque style. Ludwig König also built a new organ in a beautiful baroque case, which was completed in 1752. The monastery was closed in 1802 by the French occupiers. From 1804 the church was used as a school church for the gymnasium. From 1840 the buildings were also used for a teacher training (Lehrerseminar). The organ was rebuilt in the nineteenth century.
  • In 1925 the Weigle company installed a completely new pneumatic organ in the old organ case. After the church was severely damaged by war violence in 1943, the building was restored in 1953-1954. It was then used as a church again and in 1959 it became a rectorate church. Hence the name Paterskirche. The church was dedicated to Sankt Katharina. However, in 1971 the building turned out to be so dilapidated that it was taken out of use. After a new restoration in 1978-1979, the church has been used as a cultural center, belonging to the museum of sacred art that is located in the old monastery buildings.
  • Plans were now also made for a reconstruction of the König organ. The preparations for this began in 1994. Consultant in the work was Ute Gremmel-Geuchen. In 1999, the company Verschueren completed the reconstruction. The instrument was expanded with a matching independent pedal. Furthermore, the original disposition has been followed in its entirety. On February 12, 2000, the organ was put back into use. It was played by Ute Gremmel-Geuchen on this occasion,
