- The organ of the Église Saint-Roch in Paris was built by François-Henri Lesclop in 1750-1752. He designed a four-manual organ with 34 registers. After Lesclop died in 1752, Louis-Alexandre Cliquot took over the work. The organ was completed in 1755. The organist and composer Claude-Béninge Balbastre was one of the first organists of this instrument. It was modified in 1769-1770 by François-Henri Clicquot and extended with a fifth manual with a Bombarde 16'.
- During the French Revolution, the organ suffered greatly. More than half of the pipework was gone. Pierre Dallery started repairing the organ in 1802, using pipework from several organs that had broken down in those years. This work was completed by his son François Dallery in 1820. The organist at this time was Antoine Léfbure-Wély, father of the organist-composer Louis James Alfred Léfebure-Wély.
- The organ got its current form in the years 1841-1842. Aristide Cavaillé-Coll rebuilt the organ into a four-manual instrument with 49 registers, using the old case and part of the pipework. Cavaillé-Coll then modified the organ in 1859 and in 1881. Charles Mutin restored the organ in 1901. He modified the pedal compass, which until then started in F major. Joseph Gutschenritter expanded the disposition of the Récit with a few stops in 1927 and 1948.
- In the years 1991-1994 the organ was restored by Jean Renaud in collaboration with Michel Jurine. The situation of 1881 has been reconstructed, while retaining the pedal compass from 1901. The pipework has been revoiced by Jean-Pierre Swiderski. The organ case was repainted by Paul Poilpré in the original ocher yellow colour.
