- The Christelijke Gereformeerde Kerk of Middelburg uses an historic building that was built in the years 1493/1494 as a Gasthuiskapel (Hospital Chapel) dedicated to Saint Barbara. The building was used as a hospital chapel until 1568. After that, the church was briefly used by the Abbey residents and by English merchants. From 1589 to 1789 it was a reformed church, then Roman Catholic, in 1845 it was sold to the separated congregation, and finally in 1936 it was taken into use by the current congregation.
- The organ of the church probably came from Rotterdam, and was built there between 1760 and 1780. But the history is unclear. The upper manual is probably older, and comes from a cabinet organ from around 1675. The organ was moved to Sprang in 1832, where it was bought from E. van Gelder from Amsterdam. In 1874 it was transferred to Middelburg. It was installed by Van den Haspel & Schölgens, former employees of the Kam & Van der Meulen firm.
- In 1936 three stops had disappeared. During a revision in 1951, the Flute 4' and the Octave 2' were modified to an Octave 4' and a Flute 4'. An independent pedal with one stop has also been added.
- In January 2009, the organ was disassembled for a restoration by the Van Vulpen company. This restoration was completed in June 2010. On June 24, 2010 the organ was put back into use with a concert by Aart Bergwerff, consultant during the restoration.
