On November 8, 1936 the large organ in the Catherine Church in Eindhoven was dedicated with a concert by Flor Peeters from Mechelen (Belgium) and Kees de Rooy from Venlo. The organ had four manuals and a independent pedal, with 71 stops. The work was opus 72 by Verschueren, built under consultancy of Dr. W. Kerssemakers pr. What is special about the organ is that the fourth manual plays the altar organ. This altar organ also has its own console, where the fifteen stops are divided into two manuals and pedal. The organ facade has an open arrangement around the rose window. The three statues are still from the old Delhaye organ from 1836.
During the Second World War the organ was badly damaged by the bombing on December 6, 1942. Between 1945 and 1950 it was repaired by Verschueren, and expanded with a few stops, so that there were now 76 registers. It was given opus number 163. The organ had thus become the largest organ in the Netherlands, a status it had until 1973. On 12 February 1950 it was re-dedicated with a recital by Hub. Houët.
A restoration was urgently needed in 1990. A new console has been made, in which the electro-pneumatics has been replaced by a modern electronic system. A 77th stop has also been installed: a Subbas 32' (partly acoustic). On April 14, 1991 the renewed organ was put into use again with a play by the permanent organist, Ruud Huijbregts, and guest organist Dorthy de Rooy, organist of the Augustinian church in Eindhoven. The work was carried out by Verschueren.
In 2017, the Klais company carried out a revision. The action has been modernized. Henk Kooiker was the consultant for the work. The organ was put back into use on September 9, 2017.
