  • Kenwood United Church of Christ was built as Kenwood Evangelical Church in 1887-1888 to a design by William W. Boyington and H.W. Wheelock. The church was dedicated on November 18, 1888. At first a pipe organ by Steere & Turner (opus 263) was installed.
  • Under direction of Palmer Christian, organist of the church, a new organ was designed in 1913, that could be installed in 1914 by Ernest M. Skinner as the first organ of his company in Illinois. The specification was altered during the process, and the organ was built with a four-manual console in stead of the original three manuals. The prospect of Steere & Turner was preserved, and the Great, Choir and Swell Divisions are installed behind it. The organ was dedicated on April 16, 1914, with a recital by Palmer Christian.
  • The organ has never been altered, but it is in an unplayable condition since many years.
