  • The 'new cathedral' of Saint Louis was built from 1908, and the first celebration was held on October 12, 1914. A pipe organ was installed by the company Kilgen in 1915. This instrument was dedicated on August 25, 1915. The official consecration of the church was on June 29, 1926. From the 1915 Kilgen organ the console is exposed in the Cathedral Museum. A lot of the pipework is still present in the current instrument.
  • The organ has been replaced in the years 1946-1949 by a new instrument, also constructed by the Kilgen Company. The new organ consisted of two instruments, that were connected: the main organ ('Liturgical Organ') and a smaller Processional Organ in the South Gallery. The instrument was dedicated on October 13, 1949. Cathedral organist Mario Salvador played the dedicational concert. The main console was located on the church floor.
  • In 1983-1984, a major rebuilt was carried out by M.P. Möller Company. On July 26, 1984, the organ was re-dedicated with a concert by Mario Salvador.
  • The Wicks Organ Company restored the organ in 1996. They installed a second console (called 'Edward and Eileen Roehr Memorial Console') in the chancel. Some new ranks were installed and five digital stops. Charles Callahan, consultant during the restoration works, played the inaugurational concert on January 5, 1997.
  • In 2002, the organ was enlarged with a Dome Division with fifteen ranks. In 2006 the gallery organ was enlarged with ten new ranks. The pipework for this enlargement was taken from the Aeolian-Skinner Organ of 1951 of the First Church of Christ, Scientist in Boston. Only the Cornet of the Dome Organ was newly manufactured by Wicks. A new inaugurational concert followed on January 7, 2007, by Charles Callahan.
  • The two-manual console to the south gallery organ was replaced in 2011 by a five-manual console, coming from the Aeolian-Skinner organ of Saint Bartholomew Episcopal Church in New York City.
