Takapuna Methodist Church was founded in 1883. A new church building was built in the early twentieth century. In 1958 the current church building was built, while the old building remained in use as Church Hall. The Croft & Son company built a new organ for the new church, which was dedicated in June 1963. It was played by Maxwell Fernie, consultant during the construction, when it was commissioned. The organ was renovated by the Croft company in 1975.
