- De kerk van Saint James aan King Street in Sydney is gebouwd in 1823 en werd gewijd in februari 1824. Het gebouw werd ontworpen door Francis Greenway. Het orgel werd gebouwd in Londen door John Gray, en is op 7 oktober 1827 in gebruik genomen. Het stond opgesteld aan de zuidzijde van de kerk. William Davidson breidde het instrument uit in 1870. In 1901 is het omgebouwd door dezelfde firma. Het interieur van de kerk werd gewijzigd, en het orgel is opgebouwd in twee kassen aan weerszijden van het koor. De tractuur werd electropneumatisch. Het orgel bevatte vrijwel alleen nog maar materiaal van Davidson. In 1970-1971 voerde de firma Hill, Norman & Beard een restauratie uit. Er kwam een nieuwe speeltafel met een nieuwe electrische tractuur. Het orgel werd ook aanzienlijk uitgebreid naar 67 registers, met onder andere een nieuw Positive en een Trompette Militaire.
- In 2018 is besloten een nieuw orgel te laten bouwen door de firma Dobson Pipe Organs. Het instrument zal naar verwachting eind 2020 zijn voltooid.
