- In 1871 the Hook & Hastings firm built a new organ for the First Congregational Church in Chicago. The instrument, opus 578 of the firm, was replaced in 1927 by a large organ of the firm Kimball. This was built thanks to a donation from Andrew & Mary Dole. During its construction, part of the pipework from Hook & Hastings was taken over, as well as the front of the organ and parts of the case. The Kimball organ is completely located inside the swell box. The instrument was dedicated on October 9, 1927.
- In 1993 the organ was restored by the Bradford Organ Company. A new combination system has been installed and MIDI connections have been made.
