  • The Kalela country house was the home of the painter Akseli Gallen-Kallela (until 1907 Axél Waldemar Gallén), who lived from 1865 to 1931. He had the house built in 1894 on a peninsula in a lake, near Ruovesi. After his death in 1931, the house was used as a museum. Around 1900 Kallela bought a second-hand organ, built by A.W. Böttcher, probably between 1850 and 1860.
  • The organ was damaged by vandalism in 1921. After the death of the painter, the house stood empty until 1936, when his son Jorma took care of the building. In 1967 his wife Pirkko had the organ restored by the Kangasala firm. Most of the pipework was gone, although some was found in the woods and even at the bottom of the lake. Of the old interior, only the windchests were still present, and parts of the keyboard and the front. The organ was rebuilt with these materials, supplemented with new material and usable material from other organs. The disposition has not been reconstructed, but has been modified to make the organ more usable. The organ originally only had eight-foot stops.
