1964 Sidney R. Chase  restoration

  • In 1819 a new church was built in East Durham, New York. The meetinghouse was later moved to Cornwallville, New York, where it was converted into a Methodist Episcopal Church. The meetinghouse fell out of use and was dismantled in 1961 and rebuilt after restoration on the grounds of the Farmers' Museum in Cooperstown. The church building was officially inaugurated here on July 12, 1964. A small second-hand organ was purchased for the church, built in 1849 by Giles Beach for Grace Episcopal Church in Cherry Valley, New York. It had not been used in this church since 1903, but had remained on the gallery because the new organ of the church was too large and was located on a different place in the church.
  • Sidney R. Chase undertook a restoration in the spring of 1964, after which it was placed in Cooperstown. During the restoration, the organ was returned to its original state as much as possible. For example, the pedal added later has been removed.
