Destroyed (1940)

  • The St. Nicholas Church in Diksmuide was almost completely destroyed in the First World War. The historic organ of Jan Van Belle from 1680 with the famous Gothic rood screen was also lost. The church building was rebuilt in the 1920s in the old style. The Loncke company built a new organ in 1931/1932, which was dedicated on July 20, 1932. The organ was played by Léandre Vilain and Louis Vanhoutte at this occasion.
  • In 1940, however, the church was again very badly damaged by bombing. The interior was completely lost.
