1707 François-Joseph Carlier  new organ
1936 Manufacture Jaquot-Lavergne  reconstruction

  • The organ of the abbey church in Le Cateau was originally built in 1707 by François-Joseph Carlier. It is a classic French organ with a Grand Orgue and a Positif de Dos as second manual. The organ was slightly modified during the nineteenth century. It suffered great damage during the First World War.
  • In the years 1934-1936, the company Jacquot-Lavergne rebuilt the organ. They built an almost new instrument within cases that were reconstructed after the example of Carlier. However, the positive is no longer in use. The new organ received mechanical action and slider chests, completely in line with the style of the cases, but very special for the construction period. There is a Barker lever for the Grand Orgue.
  • Due to various problems, the organ was taken out of use in 1955. It was silent for a long time. Renovation followed in the late 1970s. Funds are currently being raised for a major restoration.
