- W.B. Simmons built a new organ in 1846, which was subsequently transported to San Francisco. Here it was placed in Howard Presbyterian Church in 1852. The organ is one of the oldest pipe organs on the west coast of the United States. A remarkable fact is that the organ was transported from the workplace of Simmons in Boston by ship to San Francisco, sailing around Cape Horn.
- In 1976 it was bought for Los Altos United Methodist Church in Long Beach. Howard Presbyterian Church had been closed, and the bulding was sold to Mount Zion Baptist Church, where no pipe organs are in use. Manuel Rosales restored the instrument and transferred it in 1977. The organ was equipped with a wind motor. Until 1976 it had to be pumped by hand.
- In 1993 the Pedal Organ was enlarged with six stops, with pipes that were in store at the Organ Clearing House. Also a General Tremulant and a Cymbelstern were added. Those works were carried out by Rosales in co-operation with George Bozeman.
