In 1951, the Walcker company built a large new organ for the Sankt Heinrichkirche in Bamberg. The organ was built with 58 stops, divided over three manuals and pedal. Thirteen empty register knobs were placed on the console for possible extensions. The instrument was dedicated on September 9, 1951, with a concert by Peter Biller, in collaboration with a choir and orchestra. The Walcker organ replaced an organ by Steinmeyer from 1918 (opus 1260), that originally had been built for the Sankt Ottokirche, and was transferred to Sankt Heinrich in 1929.
In the years 1972-1979, the original cone chests were replaced by new slider chest. The work was carried out by Walcker. The console was also renewed. In 1972 the Dolce 8' and Rauschquint of the Hauptwerk were replaced by a Terz-Septim and an Oktävlein. In 1977 the Gemsquinte 1 1/3' of the Schwellwerk was replaced by a None. On the Brustwerk the Flötenprinzipal 8' was replaced by an Oktave 2'.
