  • In 1488 an organ was placed in the cathedral of Bayonne by Dominique Castelbon. At the end of the sixteenth century it was converted by Amadis. It had a place in the transept of the church. In 1705 it was transferred to the organ gallery on the west side. François Lépine rebuilt the instrument in 1725 and expanded it with a Positif de Dos.
  • The current organ was built by Merklin-Schütze in 1865, who placed a new romantic organ in the historic cases, using a large part of the existing pipe work. The company Merklin-Schütze carried out an overhaul in 1891. The organ was rebuilt by Victor Gonzalèz in the years 1935-1936 in the spirit of the organ reform. The stop list has thereby been turned into a more baroque character ('néoclassique'). A final restoration took place in 1979 by the company Danion-Gonzalèz.
