1955 Organería Española  enlargement

  • The organ in the main hall of the Palau Nacional in Barcelona was built in 1929 by E.F. Walcker & Cie. From Ludwigsburg for the world exhibition that year. The action is fully electric. The organ has 154 stops, divided over 5 manuals and pedal. The instrument was inaugurated with a concert by Alfred Sittard on July 6, 1929.
  • The organ was restored and expanded in 1955 by OESA, adding 2500 pipes. The organ now also included a double Principal 32' and an extensive 16' full length chamade section. The new console has six manuals. From the 1970s to the early 2000s, the hall was restored and the organ suffered a lot of damage. At the moment it is unplayable and in a deplorable state. Much of the pipework has disappeared or been irreparably damaged, it is said that there is not much left than the prospect pipes and only a part of the interior. A total restoration is very expensive, and it's uncertain that this will ever happen.
