In de jaren 1941-1944 bouwde de firma Carl Hess een nieuw orgel voor de in 1941 opgeleverde Liebfrauenkirche te Mannheim. Walter Supper ontwierp het front. Vanwege de oorlog besloot men het orgel in 1944 nog niet in de kerk te plaatsen. De werkplaatsen van Hess werden echter ook door bommen getroffen, waardoor het orgel grotendeels verloren is gegaan. In 1948 voltooide Carl Hess een nieuw orgel, dat nu wel in de kerk werd geplaatst. In 2011/2012 is een restauratie uitgevoerd door de firma Lenter.
