  • In 1817 Gottfried Maucher started the construction of a new main organ for the Sankt Stephankirche in Konstanz. In the construction he used material from the old organs of the St. Stephanskirche and the St. Johannkirche in the city. The organ case comes from the Salem monastery, where Karl-Joseph Riepp built a new Tabernacle organ in 1771-1774. The interior of this organ had already disappeared. In 1858 the organ of Maucher was demolished. Konrad Albiez placed an entirely new instrument in the old cases with 34 stops, three manuals and pedal.
  • This organ was modified in 1922: the Nasard 2 2/3'was replaced by an Aeoline and the Terz 1 3/5' by a Vox Coelestis. In 1937, however, the construction of a new organ in the old cases by Xaver Mönch followed. He realized a much larger organ, which had 60 stops, electro-pneumatic action and cone chests. Part of the Albiez pipework was re-used during the construction. Both organ cases were now connected by a middle section, which was made in the style of the old work by the Gebrüder Mezger.
  • In 1991 it was decided on the occasion of the restoration of the church building to have the organ renewed. The Georges Heintz company built a four-manual organ with 58 stops. The remaining Albiez pipework was used again, as well as the Subbaß from Mönch. The middle part of the prospect from 1937 was also maintained, but it was placed much higher. The Heintz organ was dedicated on May 4, 1997 with a concert by Konrad Philipp Schuba. He was consultant during the works, together with Heinrich Trötschel. At the start in1991 Bernd Sulzmann was the consultant.
