Just south of the historic town of Cesky Krumlov lies Dolní Dvořiště, right on the Austrian border. In the village stands the Kostel sv. Jiljí, or St. Giles Church. It is a late Gothic church, completed in 1507. Unfortunately the church is slowly deteriorating and only a minimal amount of maintenance is being done. The most southern region of the Czech Republic has always had a shortage of organ builders, so when a new organ was needed for the church in 1765 the church officials turned to Franz Lorenz Richter, an organ builder just 20 kilometres to the south, in Freistadt, Austria.
