- The Sankt Idakirche in Herzfeld was dedicated on May 13, 1903. Friedrich Fleiter completed a new organ in 1906. It was placed on the gallery on the west side of the church in two neo-Gothic organ cases. It was a two-manual organ with 31 registers.
- Due to the poor condition of the organ, a plan was made in 1960 by the Gebr. Stockmann for the construction of a new organ with thirty registers. Sixteen stops from Fleiter would be taken over. This plan has not been carried out, but a temporary unit organ was installed, which was acquired from a church in Berlin-Reinickendorf. The old cases with the prospect pipes remained on the gallery. The temporary organ served for forty years.
- In connection with the centenary of the church in 2003, it was decided in 2001 to build a new organ, so that there would be a good instrument in the church for the festivities in the jubilee year. Siegfried Sauer built a new organ in the restored cases of Fleiter. Part of the existing pipework was also used again after restoration. Consultants were Johannes Tusch and Ekkehard Stier. On November 26, 2002, the new organ was inaugurated with a concert by Wolfgang Hohmann from Dortmund.
- In 2015 a new console was placed on the church floor. Both the main organ and the choir organ can be played from this console. The console was installed by Thomas Gaida. On May 13, 2015, the console was dedicated during a festive service, during which the organist of the basilica, Jörg Bücker, played the organ.
