In 1997 the company Späth Orgelbau built a new organ for the Evangelische Stadtkirche in Liestal. The instrument was inaugurated on September 21, 1997 with a concert by Simon Buser. The facade is taken from the previous organ. This had a history going back to 1864, when Merklin-Schütze built a new organ for the church with 22 registers. This instrument was converted in 1928 by Josef Zimmermann and expanded to 44 stops on three manuals and pedal. In 1942, the Kuhn company carried out a major renovation. The facade was placed in this year. Consultants were Karl Matthaei and Fritz Jenny. The organ now had 47 stops. It was inaugurated on November 8, 1942. The current organ also contains a lot of pipe work by Merklin-Schütze, Zimmermann and Kuhn. In 2016 Späth carried out a renovation. An electronic Setzer is installed on this occasion.
