  • The organ in Saint Andrew's Cathedral in Sydney is the oldest organ of the firm William Hill & Sons, which they built for Australia. It was completed in 1866 as a three-manual organ with 37 registers. The front was co-designed by Edmund Blacket, the cathedral's architect.
  • In 1899 the organ was converted by William Davidson, organ builder in Sydney. He changed the mechanical action to pneumatic and expanded the organ with four registers, tremulants and various combination options. The organ was out of use from 1930 to 1952. A new Whiteley organ had been placed opposite the Hill organ, which was in poor condition. In the years 1948-1952, the firm of Hill, Norman & Beard carried out a major conversion: they combined both organs into one large instrument, with Whiteley's pipework moved to a new case behind Hill's work. The pitch of the Hill organ was raised to match the material from 1930. The organ now had 77 registers on four keyboards and pedal. In 1984 the organ was expanded with a combination system by Pitchford & Garside.
  • In the early 1990s, a new restoration appeared to be unavoidable. The Létourneau company carried this out in the years 1996-1998. Much of Whiteley's material has been replaced by new material in Hill's style. The organ has also been made smaller, but stronger in sound and appearance. It currently has 53 registers. It was put back into use in June 1998.
