- In 1849 a second-hand organ was placed in the Église Saint-Michel in Saint-Brieuc, with three manuals and pulldown pedals. It had 25 stops. The structure was classic French: Grand-Orgue, Positif and a discant Récit. Aristide Cavaillé-Coll built a new organ in the old organ cases in 1854, but he did use part of the existing pipe work.
- In 1858 the organ gallery collapsed partially. A radical restoration of the organ was necessary, but it was not carried out until 1872. Cavaillé-Coll rebuilt the organ that year, after which it could be used again on September 25, 1873. Some construction work was also carried out in 1873 and 1874. In a revision in 1895, a Trumpet 8' was added and the Flûte Octaviante 4' of the positive was shifted to a Flûte Harmonique 8'. Another expansion took place in 1907, when Charles Mutin added a Soubasse and a Flûte 4' to the pedal.
- The organ was dismantled and stored in 1963. A new organ with electric drawers was installed by the Mack brothers. This new organ was inaugurated on May 2, 1965 with a concert by Maurice and Marie-Madeleine Duruflé. This instrument was of poor quality and soon caused major problems.
- In 1981 one started making plans for rebuilding the old organ. In 1991 there was enough money and the work started. Jean Renaud performed the work in collaboration with Michel Jurine. The reconstructed organ was dedicated on November 14, 1993.
