Het orgel in de Sankt Nikolai-Kirche in Mölln is gebouwd in de jaren 1755-1766 door C.J. Bünting. Het instrument bevat echter veel ouder pijpwerk, o.a. van Jacob Scherer uit 1558, Koster uit 1568, Stellwagen uit 1641 en Casparini uit 1721. In 1854 bouwde de firma Marcussen & Sohn het orgel om. Het rugpositief kreeg een plaats als zwelwerk boven het hoofdwerk. Het aantal stemmen werd verkleind van veertig naar drie-en-derig.
Eberhard Tolle voerde in de jaren 1954 tot 1972 verschillende reparatie- en restauratiewerkzaamheden uit. Het rugwerk werd hersteld, er werden nieuwe windladen gemaakt, een nieuwe speeltafel met electrische registrtractuur. Rudolf Neuthor voltooide de restauratiewerkzaamheden in 1975 volgens de plannen van Tolle. De tractuur is in 1995 door Neuthor geheel vernieuwd.
In de jaren 2018-2021 is een restauratie uitgevoerd door Flentrop Orgelbouw. Hierbij is een reconstructie uitgevoerd van het orgel naar de situatie van 1766.
