1930 Hendrik Geurts  rebuild

  • The organ history of the Sint-Andries church in Antwerp is no happy story. After the collapse of the tower of the church in 1755 destroyed the old organ of Blasius Bremser from 1674, it was decided in 1778 to have a new organ made by Johannes Tits. He built an organ in six years, but that instrument was rejected. After this an attempt was made to buy a second-hand organ, but this process was canceled. In 1791 Aegidius Van Peteghem was commissioned to build a new organ in the church. This instrument was quickly completed and approved. In 1793 Van Peteghem installed a Bombarde on the organ, and it was completed. Finally a good instrument was available.
  • The organ continued to function well, until the firm Hendrik Geurts carried out a major renovation in 1928-1930. The action was made electro-pneumatic. On April 27, 1930 the organ was put back into use with a concert by Flor Peeters and Karel Seeldrayers. However, the quality of the work was poor, and the organ has been unplayable in the church for several decades. A restoration is not currently under discussion.
  • The Clarinette of Geurts was removed in 2016. The register is placed in the organ of the St. Michael's Church.
