1990 Orgelbau Kuhn AG  reconstruction

  • The main organ of the abbey church in Rheinau was built by Johann Christoph Leu in the years 1711-1715. It is the only organ of this builder that still exists. The organ was examined on December 14, 1715. In the years 1840-1841 Friedrich Haas converted the instrument. The specification was changed by replacing various stops and extensions. These alterations gave the organ a more romantic character.
  • In 1941-1942, the Kuhn company carried out a restoration, removing many of Haas' additions. This restoration was concluded with a festive reopening on May 31, 1942. In the years 1988-1990 the organ was restored by the Kuhn company and brought back to its original state. The instrument was put back into use on September 16, 1990.
