- On December 18, 1723, Gottfried Silbermann signed the contract for the construction of a two-manual organ for the Peter-und-Paulkirche in Reichenbach in the Saxon Vogtland. He built an organ with 29 stops, that was inspected on May 11, 1725 by Gottfried Ernst Pestel and dedicated on May 13, 1725. Especially for this occasion, Johann Martin Steindorf composed a madrigal in honor of Silbermann.
- A first intervention in the interior took place in 1905/1906. In those years, the company Jehmlich carried out a major overhaul. They placed a Subbaß on the pedal. Furthermore, the Zimbel, the Sesquialter and the Vox Humana were replaced by a Gambe 8', Geigenprincipal 8' and Aeoline 8' respectively. On the advice of Walther Böhme, cantor organist of the church, the organ was completely rebuilt in 1927, also by Jehmlich. The wind chests were replaced by cone chests, the action was applied to pneumatic and the stoplist was expanded to 55 stops. The old facade was widened to a design by Otto Starke from Dresden. On December 11, 1927, this renewed organ was inaugurated.
- In 1963 the organ was examined by Günter Metz, organist of the Domkirche in Zwickau. He recommended that a reconstruction of the original instrument should be carried out. 24 stops of Silbermann were still fully present. Due to the high costs and a number of setbacks, these plans were not implemented. A new organ was built by Jehmlich in 1971/1972 behind the old restored prospect of Silbermann. In addition, only four Silbermann stops were taken over. The rest had been made new, with Silbermann's original design serving as an example. The stoplist is derived from the original one. On Easter Monday 1972, the organ could be dedicated.
