Patrick C. Keely was the architect of Saint James Catholic Church in Chicago, located on 2907 South Wabash Avenue. Frank Roosevelt built a new pipe organ with 26 stops for this church as opus 494 in 1891. In December 1972 the church suffered a major fire, but the organ survived the disaster, and after a restoration of the building the church could be re-openened in 1976.
Because of serious construction problems that occured in 2013, the decision was made to demolish the church building. The organ was dismantled in March 2013 and store by the Organ Clearing House in the basement of Saint Mary of the Angels Catholic Church, Chicago. In November 2019 the organ was bought by Frederick Hohman from Pro Organo, who transfered it to Fort Wayne, Indiana. The goal is to rebuilt the organ in its original form, with a new detached second console, and the planning is to get the works done by August 2020.
