In de Cathedral of the Madeleine te Salt Lake City plaatste de firma Kimball in 1909 een orgel. Dit instrument had 27 stemmen en electro-pneumatische kegelalden. Het werd in 1953 uitgebreid door de firma Schoenstein. Omdat het nauwelijks meer bespeelbaar was en eigenlijk ook te klein voor de kathedraal besloot men het eind jaren tachtig te vervangen. Kenneth Jones kreeg de opdracht voor de bouw van een nieuw orgel met vier manualen en pedaal. Twaalf registers uit het oude orgel werden opnieuw gebruikt. De Bigelow Organ Company zorgde voor de laatste werkzaamheden, zoals intonatie en het afregelen van de mechanieken. Op 21 februari 1993 is het orgel in gebruik genomen gedurende een feestelijke kerkdienst. Het officiële ingebruiknameconcert werd op 21 mei 1993 verzorgd door David Higgs.
