In 1859-1860, Philipp Furtwängler built a new organ for the Matthäi-Kirche in Gronau on the Leine. It is a three-keyboard organ with sixty stops, making it the largest instrument he ever built. In the course of time, the prospect pipes and the reeds were removed. Plans to break it down have lucky enough never been carried out. In the years 1978-1981 the organ was restored by the firm Gebr. Hillebrand, where it has been reconstructed to its original state.
