  • The abbey church in Buckfast was in ruins for a long time. After the return of the monks in 1904, the church building was rebuilt. After a large part of the church was completed, an organ was placed in 1922 by the company Hele & Co., which was enlarged in 1923, 1928 and 1929. In 1939 it was decided to replace the instrument. It was designed by Ralph Downes and built by Walker & Sons. The new organ was not delivered until 1947, but it was not yet completed. A number of stops have been taken from the organ of Hele & Co. An extension followed in 1952, and the organ was finally completed in 1963.
  • The organ is located on the north side of the choir, behind the choir stalls. Only the top of the organ case is visible, as well as some large pipes, which are placed at the rear. These are visible from the northern side aisle. The free-standing console is placed on the south side of the choir, diagonally opposite the organ.
  • In connection with the restoration of the interior of the church building, the organ was dismantled and stored in 2012. A small box organ had been temporarily placed.
