The organ contains older material: Pipes from 1907 by Spooner & Amphlett Garrard
In 1931 bouwde de firma Compton een groot orgel in de rooms-katholieke Downside Abbey. Het instrument is in gebruik genomen met een concert door Joseph Bonnet uit Parijs. Bij de bouw werd veel pijpwerk gebruikt van het vorige orgel van de kerk, in 1907 geleverd door Garrard, Spooner & Amphlett. De orgelkas is ontworpen door sir Giles Gilbert Scott. De Oostenrijker Ferdinand Stuflesser uit Ortesei (Tirol) maakte het houtsnijwerk.
