1989 Mander Organs  restauration

In 1901, T.C. Lewis built an organ for the Glasgow International Exhibition. The instrument was given a place in the temporary concert hall in Kelvingrove Park. After the exhibition, it was transferred to the Art Galleries of the museum that had been erected in the same park. A new organ case was manufactured, designed by John W. Simpson, also architect of the building. The Willis & Sons firm carried out a renovation in 1962. Under the direction of James MacKenzie, the organ was restored by Noel Mander in 1988-1989. On March 23, 1989, the organ was returned to service with a concert by the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra conducted by Alexander Gibson, with Thomas Trotter on the organ.
