In 1844 Ernst Kessler built a small organ, which was shipped to Alaska. It was given a place in the Finnish Lutheran Church in Sitka, where it was inaugurated in 1846. The instrument served here for more than forty years, after which it was sold due to the closure of the church and ended up in a museum. It was taken out of the museum in 1983 and given a place in the newly built Lutheran Church of Sitka. The instrument was damaged as a result of a fire in this church, but thanks to an extensive restoration by Martin Pasi, it has been completely restored to its original condition. It was put back into service in October 1995. The organ is the oldest pipe organ on the American West Coast.
