The historic organ of the Katharinenkirche in Hamburg was lost in the bombing of the city on the night of 29 to 30 July 1943. Seventeen registers could be saved. These were included in the new organ that was completed in 1962 by the Kemper company. The organ was played from 1663 to 1722 by Johann Adam Reincken. In 2004, plans were made for the reconstruction of this organ. The original pipes have been taken from the Kemper organ, when this instrument was sold to Poland.
