In 1966-1967, Alexander Schuke built a three-manual organ with 47 stops for the Thomaskirche in Leipzig, which was placed on the north side of the ship. The organ is designed as a counterpart to the romantic Sauer organ from 1908 that is installed on a gallery on the west side.
In 2000 a new Bach organ was built for the Thomaskirche by Gerald Woehl. The Schuke organ subsequently moved to the Sankt Mariendom in Fürstenwalde, where it was inaugurated on October 31, 2003 with a concert by Georg Popp. The organ was expanded by Schuke to 64 stops. The organ case and prospect were also redesigned. The organ was completed in 2005.
