  • The St. Matthew Church in Stuttgart was built in 1881. The church's first organ was put into use in 1896. The instrument had two manuals and a pedal, with 27 registers. It was built by the Weigle company (opus 187) and had a pneumatic action. In 1943 the organ was severely damaged as a result of bombing raids on the city. It was subsequently disassembled and stored. After the church was rebuilt, a small positive with six stops was initially used.
  • In 1952 a new three-manual organ with 24 registers was dedicated, again built by the Weigle company (opus 906). Four stops from the old organ were reused in this instrument. The organ had electro-pneumatic action. In 1966 the organ was expanded to 49 stops. The completely renovated organ was inaugurated on November 5, 1967 with a concert by Prof. Herbert Liedecke, who was consultant during the project.
  • Various problems with the organ made a new overhaul necessary in 1981. The work has been carried out by Eberhard Berner. During this revision, the disposition has been adjusted, the action has been made fully electric and the instrument has been completely retonated.
