In 1878, Aristide Cavaillé-Coll installed an organ in the chapel of the Convent of the Sacred Heart (Société du Sacré-Coeur) in Jette. After the closure of this chapel in 1980, the organ was bought by the municipality of Hasselt in 1983. The intention was to place the instrument in a room of the conservatory, but because the ceiling of this room turned out to be too low, it was built in the Sacred Heart Church in Hasselt. The organ has been preserved in its original state. It was dismantled, restored and installed by Jean-Pierre Draps. It was officially inaugurated on August 24, 1985 with a concert by Luc Ponet.
Until this time in the church in Hasselt there was a temporary organ by Gerard D'Hondt with pneumatic unit chests.
