Built by: Luca Biaggi (1599)
The old organ of the Basilica di San Giovanni in Laterano in Rome was built in the years 1597-1599 with one manual and a pulldown pedal by Luca Biagi. It was expanded in 1747 with a second manual by Lorenzo e Antonio Alari. The spring-loaded counter octave of the first manual was retained. From 1886 the organ was no longer used, because two new organs were placed on the priest's choir. Francesco Morettini restored the instrument in 1934-1936, but a truly thorough restoration was only carried out in 1985-1989 by Bartoloméo Formentelli. The state of 1747 was taken as the starting point.
