  • The organ in Perpignan Cathedral was built in 1850-1857 by Aristide Cavaillé-Coll. The enormous organ case has a height of almost twenty meters. It dates from the end of the fifteenth century and was made by an unknown Spanish organ maker. A positive organ was added in 1550, but this was removed again in 1850. The original organ shutters were removed in 1843 and have been preserved in a chapel of the church.
  • Cavaillé-Coll used the old windchests and 33 stops of the old organ for the construction. It was dedicated on December 24, 1857. In the years 1928-1930 Maurice Puget expanded the organ by seventeen stops and the manual compass was increased from 54 to 56 notes and the pedal compass from 25 to 30. Jean Renaud and Michel Jurine restored the organ in the years 1991-1993 and restored to the condition of 1857. However, the compass of manuals and pedal was maintained.
