Johann Andreas Silbermann built a three-manual organ for the Temple Saint-Etienne in Mulhouse in 1766. This church was demolished in 1866, and the organ was relocated to the Temple Saint-Jean. It has been extensively modified several times over the years, so that not much of Silbermann was left except for the organ case and some pipes. In 1971 Alfred Kern reconstructed the original specification, extended with a Tirasse Grand-Orgue. The Cymbel of the Positif has not yet been placed. In 2005, the Christian Guerrier overhauled the organ.
