Year | Builder | Opus | Activity | 1718 | Andreas Silbermann | new organ | 1771 | Johann Andreas Silbermann | enlargement | 1880 | Johann Nepomuk Kuhn | new organ in old case | 1969 | Orgelbau Kuhn AG | new organ in old case |
- In 1718 Andreas Silbermann built an organ for the Leonhardkirche in Basel. The instrument was extended with a Rückpositiv in 1771 by Johann Andreas Silbermann. The Silbermann organ was completely robbed of its interior at the end of the nineteenth century, when Johann Nepomuk Kuhn installed a new organ in the cases in 1880, a two-manual organ with thirty stops. Only the beautiful organ case remains of Silbermann's work.
- In the years 1962-1969 the church was restored. The Kuhn company built a new interior in the historic organ case, which completely corresponds to Silbermann's original work. This was partly possible due to the great accuracy with which Silbermann worked, and the organs and documents left behind. Only the pedal has been enlarged by six registers, located in a separate organ case behind the organ. The organ was dedicated on June 1, 1969.
