  • The church of Gammalkil was built around 1800. On April 10, 1802, Pehr Schiörlin signed the contract for the construction of an organ with thirty stops. In 1806 it was inspected by Zacharias Köhler, Domorganist in Linköping. A first modification was made in 1879 by Anders Kullbom. He replaced the Kvinta with a Fugara 8', and placed the Kvinta on the Öververk. The Flachfleut 4' from the Öververk was relocated to the Huvudverk. Finally, he changed the Trumpet 8' of the Huvudverk into a Trumpet 16' and combined both mixtures into one mixture.
  • Far-reaching conversion plans with many modifications to the stop list, and pneumatisation of the action were never carried out, partly thanks to the fact that Albert Schweitzer played a concert on the organ in 1927. He strongly advised not to rebuild the instrument. In 1948 Frobenius carried out a restoration. The Trumpet 8' was restored, the Kvint was re-installed and the Fugara removed. Frobenius also placed an all-new Mixtur 4 chor, a tremulant on the Öververk and expanded the pedal compass from C-a° (22 keys) to C-f' (30 keys). In the years 1973-1975 the Moberg company worked on the organ. They removed the Mixtur from 1948 and reconstructed the original two seperated mixtures of Schiörlin.
  • Under the direction of Lars Norgren, the organ was finally thoroughly restored in 1996/1997 by Åkerman & Lund. The pedal compass was again slightly reduced to C-d'. The mixtures from 1975 were replaced by more accurate reconstructions. Finally, the organ has been completely re-voiced and tuned according to the original temperament.
