Na de restauratie van de kathedraal in de jaren 1964-1967 liet men een nieuw orgel bouwen door de firma Walker & Sons. Het oude instrument van Cavaillé-Coll uit 1875 werd afgebroken. Adviseur bij de bouw was Francis Jackson. Op 20 december 1969 is het orgel in gebruik genomen. Het Swell Organ staat opgesteld in twee zwelkasten. Het nieuwe orgel kon gebouwd worden dankzij een gift van William en Sarah Thompson uit Burnley.
