  • The Steinmeyer organ in the Bachkirche in Arnstadt has a remarkable history: it was actually built in 1913 as opus 1185 to replace the old organ of the church. This organ was originally a work by Wender from 1703, but Julius Hesse expanded it with little success in 1850 and thereafter it was completed by the Meißner company. When constructing the organ, Steinmeyer used the existing Wender pipework, which was designated by the letter B on the buttons as historical pipework from the time that Bach was organist of the church. The original facade was moved from the third to the second gallery. The organ was expanded in 1938 and was re-installed one gallery lower.
  • In 1981 plans were made for a reconstruction of the Wender's organ in its original location: the upper gallery. Otto Hoffmann was awarded the contract. They also built an organ with the Steinmeyer material that was placed on the second gallery. The pipework was supplemented with new material in the style of Steinmeyer. The organ has no prospect and is hardly noticeable from the church.
